Sharpsburg evacuation not mail related Thursday, August 21, 2008
Two people were taken to Nash General Hospital this afternoon after they began reacting to an unknown agent at the Sharpsburg Post Office.Sharpsburg Police initially responded to a call of a woman in severe respiratory distress at the post office, but when they arrived they found one other person was also having a reaction to the unknown agent.The post office was evacuated and federal, state and local public safety personnel all responded to the scene.As of 5:45 p.m., officials said the agent that caused the reaction is not suspected to be mail related, but may have been an accidental mixture of two cleaning products. Officials said all tests for chemicals inside the post office had been finished and all were negative for viral or hazardous chemicals in the building.
