Wilson -- Its postseason fate still in the balance, the Barton College men’s basketball team needed to make a strong opening statement that it does have what it takes to reach NCAA regional play. Thanks largely to two first-half offensive outbursts and an overall solid defensive effort, the No. 4-seeded Bulldogs helped their case by defeating No. 5-seeded Belmont Abbey, 95-70, on Monday night in Wilson Gym in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
