Now Playing: Hunt - Fike football round 1
Friday, September 05, 2008
A rare, improbable break decided Thursday night’s 14-13 overtime thriller won by the Fike High varsity football team against archrival Hunt before a turnout in excess of 2,000.
After regulation ended with the score knotted 7-7, both teams promptly scored on their only overtime possession.
Fike went on offense first and, on first down, senior fullback Rashad Parker slammed 10 yards up the middle for the TD.
Fike senior Justin Brewer slammed his extra-point kick through the uprights and far into the night.
On Hunt’s second play, sophomore quarterback Tyrell Vinson slithered four yards into the end zone.
However, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the TD play resulted in the Warriors being forced to attempt their extra point from the 25-yard line — or 35 yards out. The kick had plenty of distance and height — but sailed just left of the nearest upright.
