Thursday, November 20, 2008 10:26 AM Arrest made in murder By Gina Childress | Times Staff Writer Wilson police said Wednesday they have made a third arrest in the Aug. 17 stabbing death of 52-year-old Donnie Morgan of Bailey. Brittany Monique Ballard, 20, of 322 Daniel St., was arrested Monday and charged with first degree murder and felonious robbery with a dangerous weapon. She is being held in the Wilson County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. Her first court appearance was Tuesday in Wilson County District Court. In late October, two other people were arrested and charged with Morgan's death. Reggie Deon Ballard, 27, of 1901 Lipscomb Road and Leon Dechase Moore, 19, of 510 E. Vance St. were both arrested and charged with first degree murder and felonious robbery with a dangerous weapon. Reggie Ballard was arrested in the Bethel area after investigators received word of his whereabouts. Moore was arrested in Wilson. They are each being held in the Wilson County Jail without bond. Because the investigation is continuing, investigators would not say how Brittany Ballard was involved in Morgan's slaying. Morgan was found dead on Aug. 17 around 4:40 a.m. in the 900 block of Carolina Street in his burgundy Chevrolet Equinox. He was last seen leaving Buck's Western Saloon around 2 a.m. When officers found Morgan, he had been stabbed and had died as a result of his injuries. Detectives were able to determine during the investigation that robbery was the motive. A search of the N.C. Department of Corrections Web site did not reveal a prior criminal history for Brittany Ballard. It did, however, reveal criminal records for Moore and Reggie Ballard. Moore, who also goes by the alias "Chase Moore" has a criminal record that includes charges for misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor assault on a female. Those charges resulted in him being incarcerated from June 3 to July 1 of this year. His record also includes charges for misdemeanor possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and misdemeanor resisting an officer. For these offenses he was placed on probation. Reggie Ballard, who has a record stemming back to 1997, has been incarcerated for several counts of felony possession with intent to sell a Schedule VI controlled substance, misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury, several counts of felonious selling of a Schedule II controlled substance, and several counts of felonious possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. A Wilson County grand jury is scheduled to review the case and decide whether to issue indictment for both Reggie Ballard and Moore during the first part of 2009. Danny Morgan, Donnie Morgan's brother, said in an earlier statement that the Wilson Police Department had done a great job and the family appreciated all of their hard work. "We have been praying for this day; now we can finally rest knowing these suspects are behind bars," Danny Mogan said when the first two suspects were taken into custody. "We know that Donnie would not have harmed anyone, and why they did this, we just want answers, and we hope we can get justice." gina@wilsontimes.com | 265-7821 |

Criminals belong behind bars...They use innocent people to get what they want. It appears that Brittany was used as bait. I'm glad these arrests were made. I'm tired of inocent people losing their lives. Now, give them capital punishment...
