Thursday, July 10, 2008 10:32 AM County backs Time Warner spin-off By Eddie Fitzgerald | Times Staff Writer Time Warner Cable, which has a franchise in Wilson County to provide cable service, was supported in a "spin-off" from its parent company Time Warner Monday by Wilson County commissioners. Commissioners passed a resolution approving the split that will give Time Warner Cable the opportunity to sell 100 percent of its stock in the public domain. Time Warner Cable is a publicly traded corporation, but before the spin-off 84 percent of its stock was held by Time Warner. According to the resolution, Time Warner Cable and Time Warner entered into the agreement to separate and the two companies filed FCC Form 394 providing details of the spin-off. The resolution also said when the spin-off is closed the franchise with Time Warner Cable will still be bound to its obligations to the county. In other business, Wilson County commissioners approved the following items: * Tax refunds for June and a property tax exemption for Feel Free Church Ministries. * Two subdivision plat requests: four lots for Bissette Place on the east side of Byrd Road and the south side of Healthy Plains Church Road in Old Fields Township; and 43 lots for South Pointe on the west side of Lamm Road and the south side of Bloomery Road in Taylors Township. * Calling a public hearing Aug. 4 to change the name of Edgecombe Road to Strickland Farm Road. * Two rezoning requests: 0.4 acres of land at the intersection of Rock Ridge School Road and Rock Ridge Sims Road from agriculture/residential to B-1 (highway business); and 13.4586 acres of land on the south side of N.C. 42 in Old Fields Township from agriculture/residential to B-1 (highway business). * A resolution to authorize the county manager to enter into an interlocal agreement with the city of Wilson to carry out the 2008 Urgent Repair Program. The resolution would allow the city to use a $75,000 grant from the program to provide housing rehabilitation in the county's jurisdiction. * Selected Frank Emory, commissioner chairman, as a delegate to the N.C. Association of County Commissioners annual conference that will be held in New Bern. |
