County drug busts result in 4 arrests

The Wilson County Sheriff's Office is sending a message to drug dealers that their behavior will not be tolerated through a campaign that has been ongoing for several months.

Lt. Danny Bailey with the Sheriff's Office said they have obtained and served four search warrants since the end of September and have hopefully disrupted drug activity in Wilson County -- at least for a little while.

"Hopefully this will slow down the drug sales in the area," Bailey said.

"We aren't going to stop," said Narcotic Detective Selby Bass. "We aren't going to go away."

Bass and his partner, Det. Brad Carter, have worked diligently on these cases and have said they are committed to disrupting the drug activity in Wilson County.

So far, four arrests have been made in the last month, with more forthcoming.

Charles Junior Moore 57, of 8030 Piney Grove Church Road, was arrested Sept. 24 after detectives obtained a search warrant and searched his home.

Bass said they seized a shotgun, 9 mm ammunition, scales and approximately 13 grams of marijuana.

Moore was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling for the sale and delivery of a controlled substance. Pending further investigation, more charges could be forthcoming.

He was placed in the Wilson County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond. He was released that same day.

A second search warrant was executed Oct. 6 at the home of Latonia Moore French, 38, of 8155 E. Fork Road, Stantonsburg.

"We had information she was selling a lot of cocaine in Saratoga and the surrounding area," Bailey said.

Upon execution of the search warrant, investigators said they seized a substantial amount of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

She was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, felonious maintaining a dwelling for the distribution or delivery of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

French was placed in the Wilson County Jail under a $15,000 secured bond. She was able to post bond and was released later that same day.

Investigators said they were also able to bust up a crystal meth operation in Kenly during this same sweep.

Dennis Keith Mayo, 35, of 8967 Frank Road in Kenly was arrested after information was received by investigators that he was selling crystal meth out of his residence.

On Oct. 9, investigators served the search warrant and were able to seize approximately 2 grams of crystal meth, 2 ounces of a substance that is believed to have been used as a cutting agent, a 9 mm handgun, scales, false containers and drug packaging materials.

Mayo was arrested and charged with possession of felonious maintaining a dwelling for the sale and delivery of a controlled substance, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of marijuana.

He was placed in the Wilson County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond. He posted bond and was released the next day.

The fourth arrest by the Sheriff's Office came after a traffic stop was initiated by Deputy J. Renfrow.

According to the report, Renfrow stopped Jonathan David Barnes, 34, of 3544 Marguerite Lane, Apt. D, Wilson, near the intersection of U.S. 117 and Frank Price Church Road.

"Once Deputy Renfrow asked Barnes to exit the vehicle, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana," Bailey said. "That led to the search of the vehicle."

Barnes was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and delivery marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for the sale and delivery of a controlled substance.

He was placed in the Wilson County Jail under a $3,000 bond and was released that same day.

if we could get some decent bonds to keep these people in jail and not released the same day or a day later....its depressing the time the officers put into this work to see the "offenders"beat them back to the streets
