Wednesday, October 08, 2008 10:42 AM Drive up, roll up your sleeve and get a shot By Janet Conner-Knox | Times Staff Writer Local health departments have taken an idea from fast food restaurants, but you can't super-size it. Both the Wilson and Nash County Health Departments are offering drive-thru flu shots. All you have to do is drive up, have your insurance card and $22 or your Medicare part "B" card available, fill out a little paper work, and get your flu shot. You don't even have to leave your car, and no appointments are necessary. If the day is warm, health department workers suggest wearing short sleeves or a sleeveless shirt or blouse. The Centers for Disease Control estimates up to 20 percent of the population gets the flu with over 200,000 adults and children hospitalized each year from it. Approximately 36,000 people, most of whom are elderly, die each year from the flu. The Wilson County Health Department's drive-thru will be on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 2-6 p.m. at Farmington Heights Church of God, which is located at 910 Raleigh Road. The Nash County Health Department will have drive-thru flu shots Thursday from 4-7 p.m at the following locations: * West Mount Fire Department * Red Oak Fire Department * Cooper's Fire Department * Spring Fire Department * Mount Pleasant Rescue Squad * Nash County Health Department (Both the Nashville and Rocky Mount offices) * Ferrell's Fire Department (4-6 p.m. only) If you miss out on the drive-thru flu shots, an appointment can be made by calling the Wilson County Health Department at 237-3141 or the Nash County Health Department at 459-9819 or 446-0027. janet@wilsontimes.com | 265-7847 |
