Man killed at Wedgewood identified

The man who was killed at Wedgewood Golf Course Friday afternoon in a traffic accident was there playing in a golf tournament.

Donniehue Langston, 73, of 3268 N. Walnut Street in Farmville was riding in a golf cart with Willie Langston, 74, of Grifton, when the cart was struck by a delivery truck on Wedgewood Drive.

Donniehue Langston was transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. Willie Langston was also taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. His condition had not been disclosed as of this morning.

Donniehue Langston's funeral was held Sunday afternoon in Farmville. He was buried this morning at 10 a.m.

According to Officer Kolly Burritt, public information officer with the Wilson Police Department, a 911 call was received around 2:03 p.m. in response to a collision between a golf cart and a First Choice Food Service delivery truck driven by Marvin Parker on Wedgewood Drive. Parker was not injured in the incident.

Burritt said the golf cart entered the roadway at the golf cart crossing between the 16th and 17th tee at the same time the First Choice Food Service delivery truck was leaving the premises. No charges have been filed against the truck driver.

Alan Parnell, director of emergency management services for Wilson, said both victims were transported by ambulance directly from the accident site to Pitt Memorial Hospital because there wasn't an East Care air ambulance available that could respond in under 30 minutes.

Law enforcement were still on the scene around 7 p.m. Friday reconstructing the accident in an effort to determine what happened.

Investigators are requesting that anyone who witnessed the accident and did not give a statement to police to call Sgt. Luke Marcum at 399-2323.
