Wednesday, August 27, 2008 10:48 AM Man linked to 2nd robbery Police are currently following leads By Gina Childress | Times Staff Writer The man who Wilson police say robbed the BB&T branch on Tarboro Street late Friday afternoon has been connected to a bank robbery that took place in Johnston County just a week before. Lt. C. Strickland with the Johnston County Sheriff's Department said this morning that a man matching the same description as the suspect who robbed the BB&T Friday is believed to be the same man who robbed the First Citizens Bank in Johnston County Aug. 14. Strickland said the suspect walked into the First Citizens Bank at Highway 42 and Interstate 40, near the 312 exit, around 3:30 p.m., and demanded money. The teller complied with the instructions, and the man fled. He was last seen walking down Highway 42 before eluding police. The description provided to Johnston County investigators was very similar to the description given in Wilson. Police say it was a white male, around 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing between 170 to 185 pounds. During the Johnston County robbery he was wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jean shorts, white socks, work boots and a baseball cap. He had a brownish-red goatee and about two days of facial hair growth. The suspect wore jeans, a white T-shirt, black steel-toed boots and a dark baseball cap with a light emblem on it, during the robbery in Wilson. Just like Wilson investigators, Strickland said they are still actively following up on leads. The FBI is also involved in the investigations. If anyone has any information about Friday's robbery or the robbery on Aug. 14 in Johnston County, he is asked to call the Wilson Police Department at 399-2323, Crime Stoppers at 243-2255, or the Johnston County Sheriff's Office at (919) 989-5769. gina@wilsontimes.com | 265-7821 |
