Nine Wilson firefighters promoted

There were a lot of proud family members, friends and colleagues who attended a pinning ceremony Tuesday night hosted by Wilson Fire and Rescue Services.

Nine firefighters were promoted and recognized during the ceremony that was hosted by Wilson Fire Chief Don Oliver.

During the opening of the ceremony, Oliver congratulated all of the people being promoted and let them know how proud he was of them.

"Thank you for your hard work over the years," he said. "It makes me very proud to see these promotions. I had the privilege to hire each of you on this list. I want to thank you for your professionalism and hard work you have put it. It means a lot to me."

The first firefighter to be recognized was Kevin Hubbard. He was promoted from captain to battalion chief and received his pin from his wife.

"I'm proud of you," Oliver told Hubbard. "I feel like you are one of my kids who 'made good.'"

The remaining eight firefighters, who were all promoted from lieutenant to captain, were Don Edwards, Allen Jenkins, Michael Bass, John Edwards, Josh Nichols, Marcus Shaw, Brian Penny and Brian Wade.

Oliver congratulated each of the firefighters and expressed how proud he was of them.

Hubbard, who spoke at the end of the ceremony, expressed his gratitude to all of the people who support the firefighters he works with.

"I would like to recognize my family for all they have put up with," he said. "I would also like to thank everyone here that supports each one of us. We know it is a sacrifice for our families as well.

"Some people go to their job because they have to," Hubbard said. "We come to our jobs because we love what we do."
