Pet Appreciation Night to be held Thursday

For pet lovers, a large tent on Radford Street will be the place Thursday night for Pet Appreciation Night.

The event is being organized by For the Love of Dogs and it will take place from 6-8 p.m. Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend.

"The public can come and share their lives about their precious pets, meet others who love their pets, and learn about our babies," said Max Fitz-Gerald, owner of For the Love of Dogs. "Someone may fall in love with one of our babies, and we're looking for great homes for our dogs."

Dinner for the guests will be donated by Parker's Barbecue restaurant, and music for the event will be provided by MXB3 of Rocky Mount.

"We're inviting people to come eat good barbecue, listen to good music, and visit and learn about our facility and animals," Fitz-Gerald said.

Due to the number of people expected to attend the event, Fitz-Gerald asks that guests do not bring their pets with them.

"I thought about inviting pets too, but it could potentially get out of hand, since we expect a couple hundred people or more," said Fitz-Gerald.

Donations to For the Love of Dogs are welcomed, but are not are not required.

"Donate to help keep us going, but even if you can't, still come, eat, visit and have fun," Fitz-Gerald said.

For the Love of Dogs is a non-profit dog rescue and adoption organization made up of volunteers who are committed to the humane treatment dogs, according to the organization's Web site. The organization is run by Max and Della Fitz-Gerald.
