The Democrats are also opening their county headquarters this weekend. GOP County Chairman Buck Newton confirmed Tuesday that U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole will be at the opening, set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at 2404 Montgomery Drive, near Wilson Medical Center. Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, who is running for governor, had already announced plans to be at the event. He is scheduled to speak at 12:30 p.m. McCrory will also be appearing at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Barton College's center campus. He was invited to speak by two student organizations: Campus Conservatives and the Gamma Lambda chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. No time has been announced yet for Dole to speak in Wilson. The Democrats will hold their opening from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at their headquarters, 132 Goldsboro St., at the corner with Barnes Street. Chris Boykin, their county chairman, is not aware of any special guests planning to attend. Many Democratic candidates appeared Monday at the annual Hot Air Fellowship at the Silver Lake Oyster Bar. |
