In Charlotte, the DSS provided a family that needed help during the holidays, based on the number of people we were able to help. The parameters in the "giving" were: food for the whole family, at least one gift item from a "wish list". Usually the companies I worked for would donate a check payable to the utility company for a specified amount to be used towards that family's account. You didn't know what was wished for until you were assigned the family and it usually was for items such as clothing and smaller toys.

I agree with u all. Christmas to me is about the children just seeing there face light up means more to me than any gift. So if your heart is willing to giving then do so. Merry Christmas to all!!!

I have sat and read the list and the comments made. These kids are just like any other kid with Christmas..........they want things. As far as the parents asking for things.......I dont see a problem with that. Some may not really be down on their luck....and should really be ashamed........but I see nothing on this list that isnt reasonable. We should all be trying to help the needy and stop buying our families so much. As Christians we should be reaching out more. I also see where people can be taken advantage of in helping.......what to do??? Pray that God leads you to the right family to help...he will.

I so agree with you there. A Playstation???? Unreal to me too, and what happened to "be gtateful for what you get?? I will never forget what happened to me about 25 years ago...I went to the Salavation Army (I remember as a child enjoying it so much dropping $$$in the big pot) and I too needed assistance at Christmas so I applied and quess what?????? I receive a letter(I had no home phone or cell phone)that they were sorry they couldn't help me that year. I was a single Mom with one small child and I asked nothing for myself, just for my child. I was crushed and my child got nothing. So my friend I so much agree with you on this one.

I'm all for helping the children but what puzzles me is why are the parent{s} in some cases asking for more than the child? Asking for Bath and Body is quite a luxury I would think. I can remember when the list were for the children to make sure they had something for Christmas - not the parent. Some sounds more like greed. If it were me I rather my child received gifts instead of me.
