Wilson Pregnancy Center in need of donations

The Wilson Pregnancy Center has found that its baby boutique is virtually empty of any items for infant girls age 0-3 months.

"We've noticed in the last couple of months that our shelves that hold items for infant girls are bare," said agency executive director Rhonda Glover. "For whatever reason, we've had more baby girls born in Wilson than usual, and we have run out of these things."

The Wilson Pregnancy Center offers free counseling to women who are pregnant or have just given birth. Counseling topics include parenting skills, feeding, child care and car seat information and a Bible study program. The center also ministers to those dealing with the loss of a pregnancy.

When a participant in the program completes a session, she can visit the center's Baby Boutique where she can take one item. Those items include diapers, infant and maternity clothing, toys and other baby necessities.

"It's not that people haven't been donating," said Glover, "it's just that we've had such a demand lately for baby girl items that we can't seem to keep any of those items in our boutique."

At the end of the counseling program, participants receive one large item, such as a stroller, crib, bassinet or high chair.

The pregnancy center rarely has to ask the public for help with donations, Glover said. Historically, area churches collect and donate all the items it needs.

But now, the Pregnancy Center may just need the general public's help in keeping its Baby Boutique stocked. The center accepts new and gently used infant clothing and toys and any new items such as diapers and baby bottles.

This weekend might just be the perfect time for Wilson moms to go through their baby girls' closets and pull out some of those clothes that look new but were worn by their daughters for about, oh, five minutes before they outgrew them!

The Wilson Pregnancy Center is located at 703 W. Nash St., on the corner of Nash and College streets, across from St. Therese Catholic Church. Hours of operation are Mondays and Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
