A Wilson man faces murder charges after police say he shot and killed two men Saturday night. Shontez A. Barnes, 43, is charged with two open counts of murder in the shootings deaths of 39-year-old Redmond L. Barnes Jr. and 34-year-old Elliot D. Barnes of Wilson.
Shontez Barnes, also of Wilson, is currently in the Wilson County Jail under no bond, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.
Police responded to a shooting in the 700 block of Black Creek Road around 10:07 p.m.
When officers arrived they found Redmond L. Barnes Jr. dead at the scene and Elliot D. Barnes suffering from a gunshot wound, Stroud said.
First-responders attempted life-saving efforts on Elliot D. Barnes, but he also died on the scene.
Shontez Barnes was arrested after a short standoff with responding officers, Stroud said. He was armed and on an apartment building roof when police encountered him, officials said.
No one else was injured.
Detectives are actively investigating the case.
“The thoughts and prayers of the Wilson Police Department are with Redmond and Elliot Barnes’ families,” Stroud said.
