ROCKY MOUNT — Three people have been arrested in connection with a convenience store robbery after police and probation officers found evidence in the case while searching a Rocky Mount apartment.
Chief Deputy Brandon Medina of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office said brothers George Edward Taylor, 30, of Rocky Mount and Deoantre Markee Taylor, 29, of Winterville, are accused of robbing the Kangaroo Express at 5102 Dortches Blvd. at 10:31 p.m. Monday. The store is in the town of Dortches and has a Rocky Mount address.
George Taylor’s girlfriend, 28-year-old Deidra Chardelle Battle of Rocky Mount, is accused of driving the getaway car.
Deputies had no suspects in the holdup until Rocky Mount police and N.C. Probation and Parole officers discovered clothing worn in the robbery while searching the home George Taylor and Battle share at 266 Lee St., Apartment 17, Medina said.
Police and probation officers alerted Nash County deputies, and a Greenville police officer identified one of the suspects in surveillance images from the Dortches store as Deoantre Taylor.
Deputies say the trio also tried to rob a Speedway store in the Martin County town of Oak City.
“A sincere thank-you goes out to the Rocky Mount Police Department, North Carolina Probation and Parole Office and the Greenville Police Department for assisting our investigators to bring closure to this robbery and possibly solving additional crimes,” Medina said in a Friday news release.
George Taylor and Deoantre Taylor were each charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and booked into the Nash County Detention Center in Nashville under a $125,000 secured bond. Battle was jailed on a charge of aiding and abetting an armed robbery and jailed on a $2,500 bond.
All three suspects face an additional charge of attempted common-law robbery in Martin County and made their first court appearance Thursday on the Nash County charges.
