The Hunt High boys tennis team got off to a 3-1 lead in its 3-A Big East Conference home match against Franklinton High, but rain put a stop to the match prematurely Monday.

“It is what it is; you can’t control the weather,” Hunt head coach Wayne Hardy said. “This is the second time we’ve moved (the Franklinton match) or postponed it.”

The match will finish up April 9 at Franklinton — if weather permits. The match on Monday will be finished first and then a second match will ensue.

The continued match will open with Hunt senior Jae Lee down a set and tied 4-4 with Collin Daniel in the second set at No. 2 singles. The Warriors had wins in hand from senior Matthew Prasasouk at No. 3, sophomore Julian Hernandez at No. 5 and sophomore Mike Franco at No. 6. Prasasouk took down Franklinton senior Dan Garcia 6-3, 6-1 while Hernandez defeated Franklinton senior Zack Carver 6-0, 6-0. Franco beat Franklinton senior Zion Bentley 6-3, 6-1.

The Warriors’ only loss was on court No. 1 when Franklinton senior Ben Henry topped Hunt senior Zachary Taylor 6-1, 6-4.

Franklinton sophomore William Porter exited due to injury at No. 4 against Hunt’s Ben Tong, so it will not count towards the winning total, Hardy said.

“You don’t win till you get at least five, we have three of the five, but it is a good sign,” Hardy said. “Hopefully we win the marathon match on 2 and get to doubles and pull it out.”
