Youngsters may still register for the eighth annual Wilson Family YMCA Youth Triathlon, to be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at Recreation Park Community Center on Sunset Road.
The event is open to ages 5-17 with distances determined by age: 5-7 (swim 50 yards, bike 11/2 miles, run 1/2 mile); 8-10 (swim 100 yards, bike 3 miles, run 1 mile); 11-13 and 14-17 (swim 150 yards, bike 4 1/2 miles, run 1 1/2 miles). Chip timing will be conducted by Run the East.
Registration is now open online at www.runtheeast.com and will continue until Wednesday, Aug. 16. Registration also will be held on site from 6:45 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. with the event set to begin at 8 a.m.
The swim leg will be held in the Recreation Park pool, a six-lane, 25-yard outdoor facility. The run will be held on grass and dirt trail around the Community Center while the bike ride will be on neighborhood streets with adult volunteers and police monitoring traffic and intersections. Helmets must be worn by all participants during the bike ride.
The cost is $35 per participant, $50 for a two-person relay or $65 for a three-person relay.

Atkinson’s “Not Good But Great” camp is Aug. 26
Barton College men’s basketball legend and current Harlem Globetrotter Anthony Atkinson will hold his “Not Good But Great” back-to-school basketball camps Saturday, Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The camp, designed for ages 4-17, will be held at Peace Church and lunch will be provided. The cost is $50.
In addition, an all-girls camp will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Peace Church. For the girls camp, the cost is $50 for ages 4-17.
Atkinson, who led Barton to the NCAA Division II national championship in 2007, is in his 10th year with the Globetrotters.
