SNOW HILL — Barbara Jean Creech Pate, age 82, passed away at her residence Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2019. A native of Greene County, she was born Aug. 16, 1936, the daughter of William Franklin and Maggie Hinnant Creech. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Barbara was reared in a farming family and continued that tradition with her late husband, Frank Parrott Pate Jr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1999. She cherished her roles as a homemaker and farmer’s wife. In later years she worked with the Greene County Schools in the office, as an assistant in the library, and as a substitute teacher. Barbara was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she faithfully attended until her health declined.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Edna Maraijko, William Titus Creech, Claude Creech, James Creech, Carl Creech and Franklin D. Creech.

Her surviving family includes her sons, Chris Pate and wife Viola of Kinston, Earl Pate of Snow Hill, and Frank Pate and wife Barbara of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Charles Pate, Leslee Pate Johnson and husband Bennie, Berry Pate and wife Lauren, and Amanda Pate all of Snow Hill; great-grandchildren, Harlee Murray, Henry Pate and Bennett Johnson; sisters, Joan Floyd of Lumberton, Hazel Stallings of Walstonburg, and Dorothy Pelletier of Stantonsburg; a brother, Nelson Creech of Snow Hill; sisters-in-law, Reba Creech and Cleo Creech, both of Snow Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. The committal service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Mewborn Family Cemetery.
