A pair of Barton College athletes were honored by NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas on Wednesday.
Sophomore Bryson Boyette was named Bimonthly Men’s Golfer of the Month for the second half of February and junior Marissa Stevenson was proclaimed Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
It’s the second such honor for Boyette, a Fike High product who picked up the award for the first half of October last fall. He tied for eighth in the spring opener, the Lincoln Memorial University Spring Kickoff in St. Augustine, Florida, and tied for second this past weekend at the Batttle at Hilton Head on Hilton Head Island. His 72.3 scoring average paces the Bulldogs.
Stevenson, a native of England, won a pair of singles matches and partnered with Daria Avram to win one in doubles to stay unbeaten in both on the season.
Stevenson, 5-0 in singles, defeated her No. 2 singles opponents from Francis Marion and Bluefield State over the weekend while she and Avram won at No. 1 doubles versus FMU.
A two-time all-conference selection, Stevenson is the second Lady Bulldog to attain the conference’s weekly honor, joining Avram from the week of Feb. 6.
