SALISBURY — A rough weekend ended on an even rougher note for the Barton College softball team Sunday.

After Saturday’s doubleheader loss at Lenoir-Rhye, the Lady Bulldogs treked to Catawba on Sunday and were humbled 11-3 and 11-0.

Neither starting Barton pitcher lasted more than an inning and both games were stopped after five of the scheduled seven innings.

Catawba walked off with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in the opener and, in the second game, exploded for eight runs in the first inning.

The Lady Bulldogs managed just three hits against winning pitcher Madison Hunter (3-0) and reliever Anna Jasper in the first game and were blanked on six hits in the nightcap by Brooke Walser (2-3).

Hannah Jones, Barton’s starting pitcher in the opener, lasted just an inning. Sierra Hearp, the Game 2 starter, retired just one batter — allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks.

Hayley Grizzle, Jordan Blake and Brittany Jacobs each hit safely for Barton in the first game. Grizzle doubled.

In Game 2, Grizzle batted 2 for 3 and Kelsey Carroll doubled.

Powering Catawba was left fielder Kaylee Cook with a double and triple in the first game and a triple in the finale.
