After nine matches away from the confines of Wilson Gym to open the season, the Barton College women’s volleyball team required just 94 minutes to send Francis Marion away with a 25-23, 26-24, 25-19 victory on Wednesday night.
Barton, the defending Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament champion, improved to 4-6 as Francis Marion, members of the Peach Belt Conference, dropped to 2-5.
The Lady Bulldogs hit effectively in the first and third sets, sporting hitting percentages of .405 and .326 to lead the way to a .273 output on the attack. Barton never trailed on its way to winning the opening set and endured nine ties before pulling away in the third and final set.
Freshman Kaytlin Elkins, who entered play as the Conference Carolinas leader in kills, tacked on a match-high 17 to pace the Barton offense. Senior Miranda Miller, an outside hitter, had 14 kills. Junior setter Angelica Acevedo ran the Barton offense with 45 assists and tallied 16 digs on defense.
Georgia Garrison led the Lady Patriots with 10 kills.
The Lady Bulldogs continue a five-match homestand Friday, opening defense of their Conference Carolinas crown with a 7 p.m. match against Converse College.
