Barton College’s journey to becoming a full-fledged NCAA Division II college football team will get a whole lot more real Tuesday.
While ground recently broke for the Bulldogs’ multipurpose synthetic turf field, the Bulldogs will announce the program’s first head coach since reviving the decades-dormant program with an 11:30 a.m. public gathering at Parish Plaza, located in the center of campus outside Howard Chapel.
At noon, the formal press conference in Howard Chapel will follow with Barton President Douglas Searcy, Athletic Director Todd Wilkinson and the coach, who has yet to be announced.
Barton announced in January that it would be bringing college football to Wilson. The team, currently without a conference home, is tentatively scheduled to begin play in 2020.
Searcy told the Times in May that Barton had narrowed its final candidate pool to approximately 10 candidates out of an initial pool of over 100.
