The Barton College women’s lacrosse team’s three-game winning streak was snapped by NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas archrival University of Mount Olive on Thursday with a 16-7 loss on the Electric Supply Company Field surface Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs, who fell to 5-3 in the conference and to 8-5 overall, got down 3-0 in the first four minutes. Kayli Ashenfelter scored two goals to cut the deficit to 4-2 with 17 minutes left in the first half.
The Trojans (9-4, 6-1 CC) scored three more goals before intermission for a 7-2 cushion.
Barton’s Courtney Willis scored the first goal in the half, but Mount Olive netted six straight to take command, 13-3.
Barton’s Willis and Ashenfelter each scored one more goal. The Lady Bulldogs also got a goal each from Morgan McGuffin and Brooke Lonergan.
The victory boosted Mount Olive’s title chances.
Barton will be on the road Saturday to play conference foe Converse College.
