Wilson’s Boys and Girls Club is one of 10 organizations across the country that could win an additional $5,000 from BB&T. But the club needs the community’s help.
Folks can cast their vote online for the Boys and Girls Club between now and Thursday. The three projects with the most votes will be awarded the money.
“This is a great honor to and blessing to be chosen as one of the 10 organizations for the BB&T Lighthouse Project,” said Chon Ferrell, Wilson’s Boys and Girls Club director. “These kids are our future. Please take out time and vote for the Boys and Girls Club of Wilson.”
This year, Wilson’s BB&T Load Services’ Lighthouse Project was nominated for BB&T’s Spirit Award.
The team purchased hygiene kits for 288 students at the Boys and Girls Club. Volunteers also introduced the students to “banking basics” and taught an introduction to interviewing class. The banking basics materials were reviewed with the students as well as a session on how to write checks and balance a checkbook.
The classes will also help develop life skills for future success, according to organizers.
Each year, BB&T allows its associates, clients, community organizations, neighbors, friends and family to cast their votes to help them determine the Spirit Award winners.
