ETTRICK, Va. — Junior Larry Russell broke into the top 10 of NCAA Division II long jumpers, and sophomore Micah Clemmons won a pair of field events to pace the Barton College men’s track team over the weekend at the Virginia State University Trojan Invite.

Russell won the long jump with his leap of 7.44 meters, good for NCAA provisional status and the No. 8 spot on the Division II qualifying list.

Clemons captured the shot put with his throw of 14.56 meters, also a season best.

In the discus, Clemmons outlasted seven other competitors with his hurl of 42.08 meters.

Senior Justin Alford, a product of Southern Nash High, won the pole vault against a limited field.

Alford defeated six other competitors to win his event with a clearance of 3.66 meters, while freshman Alayna Moore, competing unopposed, cleared 2.13 meters.

Russell was also second in the 110-meter high hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.26. Senior Joel Lagat was second in the 800-meter run.

In women’s competition, freshman Jasmine Watson posted a second-place showing in the 100 hurdles.

Barton will compete in the Conference Carolinas Championships beginning Friday hosted by Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina.
