The Beddingfield High baseball team lost its second game of the week to 2-A Eastern Plains Conference foe North Pitt on Friday night at home, 11-0.
The Bruins (0-7, 0-2 EPC) have four of their 11 players who are getting their first taste of high school baseball and against the Panthers (13-0, 2-0) -— the No. 3 team in 2-A in the MaxPreps — head coach Noah Edens said his team struggled.
“We had some good at bats, but for every good at bat, we had a bad at bat,” Edens said. “Defensively, we made a few mistakes and we’re trying to clean it up. We’re having one or two bad innings a game.”
The bad inning Friday was the top of the third inning when the Bruins gave up six runs on four hits, two walks and an error. Beddingfield only managed two hits and two walks the entire night. Devallice Rasberry and Adrian Soto drew walks before a single by Mann Farmer loaded the bases with two outs in the third inning, but North Pitt’s Matthew Bailey struck out the next batter.
Bailey got the win after pitching three innings, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out five. Farmer pitched three innings and took the loss while giving up nine hits, 11 runs, five earned, five walks and striking out one.
It won’t get any easier for the Bruins, who are at home Tuesday against conference foe North Johnston, unbeaten and ranked No. 11 in the state 2-A ranks by Maxpreps.com.
