KENLY — The Kenly Ministerial Association will sponsor a public reading of the Bible beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday. Participants will continue nonstop around the clock until the entire Bible is read aloud from Genesis to Revelation.

The readings will take place in Kenly Gospel Music Hall on West Second Street in downtown Kenly.

Anyone in the greater Kenly community who would like to participate in the Bible-reading marathon is encouraged to sign up for a time to read, said George Arant of the Kenly Ministerial Association.

“We would like for members of all churches in the community to sign up to read,” said Arant. “We will begin with the first chapter in Genesis and read through to the last chapter in Revelation. We get volunteers to read out loud for 30-minute intervals of time and participants can sign up for specific times they want to read. In the past some have signed up to read more than once, and we have had some husband-wife teams to sign up.”

Arant said the ministerial association has held the public reading for the last four to five years.

“This program is well-received by people within the community, and they appreciate us doing it,” he said.

Arant added that most who participate in the reading call it a meaningful experience for them and say they get lot out of it.

“The word of God is powerful, and the spoken word of God is even more so,” said Arant.

The signup sheet for Bible reading times will be at Kenly Missionary Baptist Church, and readers can also sign up on the church website, www.kenlybaptist.com.
