Clothing giveaway set for Saturday

Faith Temple Mission and Total Impact Outreach at 117 S. Douglas St. will give away clothing and other miscellaneous items and serve soup beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 17.

Church offering free lunch

Feed My Sheep Ministries of Wilson Chapel Church will be distributing free lunch bags to the public from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17 at Wilson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 513 Barnes St. E.

Nar-Anon group plans meeting

NASHVILLE — The Hope Seekers Nar-Anon group will meet 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 at Nashville United Methodist Church, 209 E. Washington St.

Retired school workers to meet

The Wilson County Retired School Personnel will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21 at the Senior Citizens Center, 1806 Goldsboro St.

Food drive scheduled Thursday

A “Fill the Bus” food drive to benefit Wilson County food pantries will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 22 at the Shoppes at Brentwood, 2801 Ward Blvd.

Needed items include canned food, size 10 cans of soup, juices, cereals, pastas, spaghetti sauces, hygiene items and cleaning supplies. Financial contributions will also be accepted. Make checks payable to United Way of Wilson County.

Lions plan vision, hearing clinic

The Wilson Evening Lions Club will sponsor a vision and hearing screening clinic on its Brighter Vision van from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, March 23 at Walmart on Forest Hills Road. The screening is free to the public and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Information on diabetes prevention and treatment will be available.

Golf tournament slated Friday

The Wedgewood Ladies Golf Association will hold its second annual four-person superball tournament on Friday, March 23 with a tee time of 1 p.m.

Douglass alumni selling chicken plates

ELM CITY — The Frederick Douglass Alumni Association’s Elm City/Wilson chapter will have a barbecue chicken plate sale 11 a.m. Friday, March 23 at the 205 Dixon St. alumni house.

The cost is $8 per plate and each plate will include a half-chicken, string beans, boiled potatoes, bread and cake. Plates will be available until sold out. To place orders, call Willie Williams at 252-290-2394. All proceeds will be donated to support community outreach projects.

Library schedules computer class

City hosting homebuying workshop

People interested in buying homes can learn the first steps at a free workshop scheduled 9 - 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7 at the city of Wilson’s Charles Pittman Operations Center, 1800 Herring Ave. This workshop is free, but attendees are required to register by calling 252-399-2308.

Go bald to cure childhood cancers

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation will host one of its signature head-shaving events at O’Cools of Brentwood on Saturday, April 7, and organizers say more than 40 participants will shave their heads or cut off 8 inches of hair to raise money for lifesaving childhood cancer research.

The event will include local barbers from Airport Barber Shop, Dawna’s Hair Studio, Headlines Hair Design, Ross McDaniel Salon and Sport Clips. ShanSound Entertainment will provide music. Photos will be taken by Amanda Kessler and a silent auction and raffle are planned with all donations going to St. Baldrick’s.

Artists sought for garden show

Preservation of Wilson is calling all artists to be part of the nonprofit’s annual Garden Party and Fine Art Show to be held Sunday, May 6.
