FARMVILLE — Junior Patrick King of Beddingfield and senior Tyler Scott of North Johnston were the only two wrestlers from Wilson Times readership area schools that went unscathed on the first day of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2-A East Regional tournament Friday at Farmville Central.

Scott, who received a first-round bye in the 160-pound bracket, pinned Farmville Central’s Rushawn Perkins in 4 minutes, 38 seconds to advance to Saturday’s semifinals with a 25-3 record.

King overcame Croatan’s Travis Hanson Jr. with a pin in 3:20 in the first round then stopped Edenton Holmes’ Braedon McIntosh with a 9-3 decision to earn a spot in the third round. King, now 17-8, will face North Pitt junior Sincere King, who claimed a 6-2 decision over North Johnston’s JoJo Richardson in the second round.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the NCHSAA state tournament next weekend (Feb. 17-18) in Greensboro.
