WINTERVILLE — Senior Deshawn Owens established a new Charles B. Aycock High boys cross-country school record Wednesday afternoon, traversing the Boyd Lee Park course in a time of 17:04 to lead the Golden Falcons to a second-place finish at the 3-A/4-A Eastern Carolina Conference championships.
Owens was one of two CBA runners to earn all-conference status through a top-10 finish, as he was joined by junior Davis Carroll’s 10th-place time of 18:33. Junior Chance Hobday (19th, 19:20), sophomore Guy Crane (21st, 19:28) and junior Brady Lavoie (28th, 19:47) rounded out CBA’s five scoring runners. Owens finished fourth in the 101-runner field.
D.H. Conley dominated the race, with all five runners finishing in the top nine. Conley had 28 points as CBA (68), South Central (85), New Bern (105), Southern Wayne (130), Eastern Wayne (162) and Greenville Rose (166) followed.
New Bern’s Jonathan Johnson won the individual title crossing the line in 16:27.
CBA will run in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A East Regional on Saturday at Red Oak Middle School.
