Carolina (24-16), which split the four-game series, started the scoring with a big fourth inning, when it put up four runs, including a two-run double by Clark.

Following the big inning, the Hillcats cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Jodd Carter hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Mike Rivera.

Matt Hardy (6-0) got the win with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief while Lynchburg starter Nick Gallagher (1-1) took the loss for the Hillcats (19-19), who fell to .500 with the loss.
