It’s hard to believe that the N.C. Whirligig Festival is this weekend. Time flies when you’re having fun, right?
The festival planning committee certainly knows it is November. They’ve been planning and organizing the Whirligig Festival all year long. What a great group of community and festival supporters. I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the committee this year, so I know how much time and energy this great group contributed to Wilson’s annual festival.
Plan to visit Wilson Medical Center’s booth this year on Goldsboro Street — where many exciting activities are planned. The theme is fitness, and we are excited to sponsor a new event this year, the Whirligig Warrior Course. It’s open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and there will be a warrior competition on Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The course will feature many of the same challenging activities seen on TV — quad steps, cannon ball alley, monkey bars and much more. Come out and try it! American Ninja Warriors will be on hand to assist and encourage participation. Try the course and get your picture taken with your friends and one of the Warriors.
Go to WhirligigFestivalNC.org to register for Sunday’s competition. You must been 18 years old to compete. The first 25 to register can enter the competition.
Other activities include My Steps Count, an activity to encourage moving more and taking steps. Register at the Wilson Medical Center tent, guess how many steps it takes to reach designated festival spots, and then walk to and from one or more of the locations. Record your steps. Learn how to use your smart phone as a pedometer or use your fitness wearable device to count your steps.
Our booth will also feature exercise stations, a nutrition display, fitness games, a spin wheel with prizes and more. The more you participate, the more chances you have to win a $150 Omega Sports gift card.
Join the fun and festivities. There will be so much to do and enjoy, so bring the whole family. Guaranteed fun, laughter and opportunities to be active and move more. See you this weekend.
