The Power Plex Athletic Center, 2708 Wooten Blvd., will hold a yard sale fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a chicken dinner plate sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 27. All proceeds from the yard sale and plate sale will be used for Team Power Foundation scholarships. The foundation is a registered nonprofit organization.
Church to open family life center
LUCAMA — Mary Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 6202 Wiggins Mill Road, will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its family life center at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27.
Back-to-school fundraiser planned
A back-to-school plate sale is planned from 11 a.m. until sold out Friday, Aug. 2 at the Pride of Wilson Lodge, 6110 Ward Blvd. All proceeds will help purchase school supplies.
The $8 plates will include two meats, two vegetables and bread; the $10 plates will include three meats, two vegetables and bread. Meat choices are chicken, fish, pork ribs, turkey barbecue and pork barbecue. Vegetable choices are cabbage, green beans, potatoes and slaw. Bread choices are dinner roll and hush puppies.

Church offering first aid class
Mount Hebron Church, 700 Pender St. S., will offer a first aid class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4. The class is $55 per person. Minimum enrollment is nine people and maximum enrollment is 20. Foundation sets grant application deadline
The Wilson County Community Foundation will accept grant applications from area nonprofits through noon Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Funds are available for nonprofit organizations that serve general community needs in Wilson County. Grants will be awarded from the community grantmaking fund. Applications are available online at www.nccommunityfoundation.org.

Guardian ad litem volunteers sought
Organizers are seeking volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children through the judicial system’s guardian ad litem program ahead of a GAL volunteer class scheduled to begin in September.
