Community Briefs: Advent concert planned today

First Christian Church, 207 Tarboro St. N., will launch its ninth annual Advent concert series, “A Space for Grace,” with guest pianist Johnny Sullivan performing from 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6.

The series continues on Wednesday, Dec. 13 and Wednesday, Dec. 20 with music of the Christmas season. All concerts are free and open to the public.

Wilson NAACP to meet Thursday

The Wilson branch of the NAACP will meet 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 at Jackson Chapel Church, 571 Nash St. E.

Church to hold food giveaway

By Faith Church, 4667 Evansdale Road, will have a food giveaway beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8. Recipients are asked to bring their own boxes or containers along with picture ID.

Clothing distribution set Saturday

The Freedom Ministries outreach mission department will give away clothing of all sizes, miscellaneous housewares, household items and more at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at 300 Fairview Ave. Hot dogs and drinks will also be given away.

Church offering free clothing

STANTONSBURG — St. James United Holy Church, 100 Main St., will have a clothing giveaway from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. For more information, call Pennie Diggs at 252-373-0635.

Group plans chili luncheon

The Order of the Eastern Star’s District 13 is sponsoring a community luncheon with hot chili, crackers, drinks and more from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at Mount Hebron Lodge No. 42 located at 117 Pender St. between the Jackson Chapel and St. John AME Zion churches.

Federal employees’ group to meet

ROCKY MOUNT — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Gardner’s Restaurant, 1331 N. Wesleyan Blvd.

Optimist clubs selling Christmas trees

Wilson’s Optimist clubs are having their annual Christmas tree, wreaths and bows sale 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1-9 p.m. Sundays.

The Evening Optimist lot is at the corner of North Carolina Avenue and Nash Street; the Breakfast Optimist lot is at the corner of Forest Hills Road and Raleigh Road Parkway. All proceeds supports the youth in Wilson County.

Hospice agency seeks volunteers

Community Home Care and Hospice is looking for caring, compassionate individuals to become companions to hospice patients in their homes or facilities. Training is free. For more information, call Derek Bossolono at 252-291-5353.
