Hospital to host Relay for Life
Relay for Life of Wilson County will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, May 17 at the Wilson Medical Center walking track.
The team relay to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to the disease and support cancer cure research by raising funds for the American Cancer Society will include entertainment, kids’ activities, survivor, caregiver and kids’ laps and a luminary ceremony.

Chamber to begin festival planning
SPRING HOPE — The Spring Hope Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a planning meeting for the Spring Hope National Pumpkin Festival from 7-8 p.m. Monday, May 20 in the chamber office at 112 W. Railroad St. Anyone interested in helping to plan this event is invited to attend.
Quarterly food distribution slated
The Opportunities Industrialization Center of Wilson, 801 Reid St. E., will hold its quarterly food distribution from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 22. Qualified applicants who have fixed incomes, receive public assistance and are Wilson County residents are welcome. Free health screenings will be available. Darden alumni plan memorial golf tourney
The Charles H. Darden High School Alumni Association will hold its inaugural Erwing A. Cogdell Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, May 24 at the Willow Springs Country Club, 3303 U.S. 301. Registration, practice and lunch are planned from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The tournament begins with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Entry fees are $75 per person and $300 per team. Range balls and lunch are free.

Garden talk to focus on food insecurity
Brittany Allen, an AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America member working with the city of Wilson, will be the featured speaker for the Wilson Botanical Gardens’ June Garden Talks lecture planned from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Monday, June 17 at the botanical gardens, 1806 Goldsboro St. Allen will speak about food insecurity in Wilson.
