Blood drive set for Wednesday

Wilson Medical Center will host a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, in the hospital auditorium. To make an appointment, call Lisa Briley at 252-399-8470 or visit redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code “Wilson Medical Center.”

Agribusiness panel to meet

The Wilson AgriBusiness Committee will meet at noon Wednesday, July 3 at Parker’s Barbecue. Jose Pabon, Wilson plant manager for Smithfield Foods, will give an overview and update on the bacon manufacturing plant in Wilson.

Pabon has offered committee members and guests a tour of the Smithfield Foods plant from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10. Advance registration is required and the tour is limited to 20 people. Register by calling 252-237-0111 or emailing norman_harrell@ncsu.edu.

Alumni group to hold scholarship dance

The William-Springfield Alumni Association’s annual scholarship dance will be held from 9 p.m. Saturday, July 6 to 1:30 a.m. Sunday, July 7 at the Wedgewood Country Club on Old Stantonsburg Road. Dress is semi-formal.

Garden volunteer day planned

The Wilson Botanical Gardens and Wilson Master Gardeners are asking for volunteers to help uproot invasive weeds in the native plant garden at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 9. The botanical gardens are located at 1806 Goldsboro St. SW. Volunteers are asked to bring sturdy shoes, cap or hat, work gloves, sunscreen, insect repellent and your weeding and pruning tools.

Free water and snacks will be provided.

Hospital schedules nursing job fair

Wilson Medical Center will hold a job fair for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses on its medical and surgical team from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at the hospital’s special meeting room No. 3. To learn more or RSVP, email stephanie.fox@lpnt.net.

Bereavement support group to meet

Hospice of Wilson’s Bereavement Support Group for anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11 in Wilson Medical Center’s Wells Fargo Conference Room. For more information, call 252-640-2400.

Breastfeeding class slated

Wilson Medical Center will offer a free breastfeeding class to help expectant mothers learn about the importance of breastfeeding at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18 in the Wilson Medical Center auditorium. To register or for more information, contact 252-399-8887 or email lactation@wilmed.org.

Childbirth education class planned

Wilson Medical Center will offer a free childbirth education class from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20 in the hospital auditorium. Organizers say this class should be started by the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy. To register or for more information, email Olivia Davis at olivia.davis@wilmed.org.

Tobs to host doctors-lawyers softball game

The Wilson Tobs will host a doctors vs. lawyers softball game at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25 as part of the team’s Paint the Park Pink promotion. The Tobs will take on the Edenton Steamers at 7:15 p.m. Ballpark activities include a jersey auction, giveaways and live entertainment.

Bridge club announces results

Wilson Duplicate Club winners for June 25 are Nancy Thompson and Mabel Gray Henry, first; Betty Banks and Frank Eagles, second; Lynda Land and Jerry Woodard, third; Martha Walston and Agnes Cherry, fourth; and Katie and John Covington, fifth.
