Church to offer pancake breakfast
The Original Rose of Sharon, 300-B Broad St. will hold a pancake breakfast from 9 -11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 with sausage, eggs and coffee for $4 to $6 per person.
Backpack distribution planned
The Team Power Foundation will hold a back-to-school backpack giveaway from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25 at Levels Barber Lounge, 902 Reid St. E. Backpacks will include school supplies and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents must be present with their children. The barbershop will offer free haircuts and hairdos until 3 p.m. Free refreshments will be available.
Authors to speak at senior center
BAILEY — James and Margaret Bailey, authors of “The Country Doctor Museum: Early Medical Practices, Treatments and Medicines” will speak at the Southern Nash Senior Center, 8180 Stoney Hill Church Road, at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26. The senior center is sponsoring the presentation for seniors 60 and older. There is no cost to attend, but advance registration is required due to limited seating. ‘Sleepy Hollow’ auditions slated
The Playhouse of Wilson will hold auditions for “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: The Musical” from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 and Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center, 108 Nash St. NW.
End-of-summer party scheduled
The Faithful Brothers from the Pride of Wilson Lodge No. 484 and Charles H. Darden Alumni Association will have an end-of-summer all-white affair from 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1 to 1 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2 at the Darden Alumni Center, 1600 Lipscomb Road E.

Amateur radio exams offered
SELMA — The Five-County Volunteer Examiner Team will offer free Federal Communications Commission amateur radio licensing exams at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Thanksgiving Fire Department, 2375 Thanksgiving Road.
Instructions on how to study and register for the amateur radio exam can be found on the website n4mqu.com or by calling 919-628-0096. Registration is required.
