Weekend DWI checkpoint planned

SHARPSBURG — Several Nash County law enforcement agencies will hold an impaired driving checkpoint from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 to 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1. Authorities remind motorists never to drink and drive and urge those who drink to designate a sober driver or schedule safe transportation in advance.

Agribusiness panel to meet

The Wilson AgriBusiness Committee will meet at noon Wednesday, Sept. 5 Wednesday at Parker’s Barbecue. Michelle Grainger, managing director of the Executive Farm Management Program at N.C. State University, will be the guest speaker.

Bible college registration slated

Town board reschedules meeting

SHARPSBURG — The Sharpsburg Board of Commissioners will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at Town Hall, 110 W. Railroad St. The meeting is open to the public and had previously been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Barbecue plate sale fundraiser planned

ELM CITY — Refuge Trinity Holiness Church, 6108 Justin Trail, will have a barbecue plate sale from noon to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7. Plates will include pork barbecue, slaw, two vegetables, roll and dessert for $8 each. All proceeds will go to support the Rev. Sonny Griswold and his wife Hope on a mission trip to Africa. Firefighters plan plate sale fundraiser

MIDDLESEX — The Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chicken and barbecue plate sale fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the firehouse on Finch Avenue. Food will be available at 11 a.m. and offered until 5 p.m. or until sold out.

Barbecue chicken and pork barbecue plates will be sold for $8 each. Middlesex firefighters are also selling $100 raffle tickets for a chance to win $10,000.
