Re: “City seeks sponsors for Toisnot Park’s new dog park,” front page, Monday:

The Wilson City Council has allocated $150,000 of the estimated $212,500 budget, so Parks and Recreation Director David Lee has started a campaign seeking sponsors for the park. ‘Bark for your Park’ includes sponsorships up to $5,000 and as low as $250 for residents wanting to memorialize a special pup in their lives.

Can you believe this much money is going into this dog park? I am all for a dog park, but what happened to our tax dollars on our county’s new shelter for our dogs and cats? This is ludicrous when we have such poor conditions in Wilson to house our unwanted pets. A town as small as Snow Hill has a brand new shelter and it’s a no-kill shelter.

What’s wrong with people in Wilson, and why are you not demanding a new shelter? We already pay our taxes on these dogs and cats and we certainly could get this much-needed shelter built. You are pulling together to make this dog park happen so let’s do this, Wilson! Let’s get this shelter up and running and something we can be proud of!
