PIKEVILLE — Authorities say a fight between two rural Wayne County neighbors ended with one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound and the other in jail.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a shooting around 8:42 p.m. Friday at 104 Overton Lane south of Pikeville. Michael Wayne Hatcher of the home told deputies his neighbor, 60-year-old Tony Fernando Anderson of 100 Overton Lane, had “shot him through his front door,” Maj. Richard Lewis of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies found Anderson at his home. Lewis said the shooting suspect had “extensive facial injuries,” but did not describe how those injuries occurred.
Medics took both men to Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro for treatment.
Anderson was taken into custody on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury upon his release from the hospital.
He was jailed under a $125,000 secured bond.
