The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case where several vehicles were struck by bullets along U.S. 264 East on Wednesday.
No one has been injured.
“As of right now, we have no evidence that indicates if the shootings were intentional or unintentional,” said Wanda Samuel, sheriff’s office chief of staff.
Samuel said the sheriff’s office started to receive calls from motorists at 1:50 p.m. stating that their vehicles had possibly been shot at. She said while the calls were received randomly at different locations. All callers reported that they were driving on U.S. 264 East near mile marker 38 when the incident occurred.
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Nash County Sheriff’s Office to see if it was receiving similar calls in its jurisdiction to determine a centralized location of the shots, Samuel said.
“It was confirmed that they (the Nash County Sheriff’s Office) had not received any calls,” she said.
The Wilson County’s Sheriff’s Office determined the shots were fired from U.S. 264 Alternate near the Interstate 95 exit, officials said.
Deputies then saturated the area to investigate the calls, according to Wilson County officials.
Samuel said since Wednesday night, deputies have been working the case and patrolling the area for additional evidence. Samuel confirmed that the incident occurred between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. She said there are reports of damage to five vehicles in that time frame.
Samuel said the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office does not have any reports of vehicles damaged outside that date and time frame.
“We have not received any additional shots-fired calls since the indicated time of incident,” she said.
Deputies continue to investigate the case. She said anyone with information should contact the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office at 252-237-2118.
