The Fike High varsity softball team shook off a sluggish start to post an 11-3 Senior Night victory against archrival Hunt in the 3-A Big East Conference headliner Thursday night.

Trailing 2-1, the Lady Golden Demons exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and wound up with 16 hits.

Fike honored seniors Bailee Summerlin, Michaela Lockridge, Caitlyn Vinoski, Macala Turner and Sabrina Holley and, of the fourth-inning explosion, head coach Josh Jenkins commented: “I think we finally got over the Senior Night emotions.”

The Lady Demons remained deadlocked with Southern Nash for the conference lead at 8-1 and hiked their overall record to 15-5. Fike ends the regular season with a conference clash at Northern Nash at 7 p.m. Monday. The conference tournament begins Tuesday.

Hunt tumbled to 5-4 in the Big East and to 8-11 against all foes.

Fike launched the big fourth inning with a single by Taylor Little. Summerlin’s double and Curlings being hit by a pitch loaded the bases. Lockridge’s two-run single chased starting Hunt pitcher Brittany Glover. Two more walks forced in a run. After an out, Hailey Hammonds, Lydia Hunt, Little and Summerlin rapped successive singles.

Hammonds batted 4 for 4, while Summerlin finished 3 for 4. Little, Hunt and Caitlin Graziana each drilled two hits. Graziana rapped a triple and double.

In the circle, Fike freshman Lindsey Curlings improved her record to 4-1. In seven innings, Curlings scattered seven hits and three walks. She allowed two earned runs and struck out a pair.

Hunt was triggered by Destiny Norris and Julianne Ethridge with two hits each. Both doubled and drove in a run.
