CARY — Representing the Tri-County United States Bowling Congress of Wilson, Nash and Edgecombe counties, Alex Ellis and C.J. Garner each win state championships at the USBC North Carolina State Youth Bowling Tournament at Buffaloe Lanes in Cary on April 14.
Ellis topped a field of 139 competitors to win the All Events Handicapped Division 4 title, compiling an aggregate score of 2,409. That was 39 pins clear of runner-up Thomas LoFaso of Rowan-Mooresville USBC.
Ellis added a third-place finish in All Events Scratch Division 4 and was ninth in Handicapped Singles Division 4.
Garner won his title in Division 2 Handicapped Singles with a series total of 810 against the field of 77 bowlers. He cleared his next closest competitor, Matthew Thornton of High Point, by 36 pins.
Garner was third in both Handicapped and Scratch for Division 2.
Tri-County USBC logged four additional top-10 finishes, including Hannah Cox’s ninth-place finish in Division 4 All Events Handicapped. Cox teamed with Lariq Whitaker to place ninth in Division 3 Handicapped Doubles.
The tandem of David Dickens and Donovan Dickens were eighth in Division 2 Handicapped Doubles.
