Hundreds of children and their families could barely contain their excitement Saturday at Tabernacle Baptist Church’s Easter Eggstravaganza.
More than 6,000 eggs were dropped via helicopter in the church field for an Easter egg hunt. The free community-wide event drew a large crowd of onlookers and participants. In addition to the Easter egg hunt, the church hosted free hot dogs, prizes, bouncy houses and other activities for families.
Assistant Pastor Mike Bennett said the church was thrilled to bring smiles to so many children’s faces Saturday. While it was a fun-filled day, Bennett said the main reason they held the event was to share the gospel.
“It gives us an opportunity to reach out to people in our community who may never come through the doors of our church,” he said. “But we can begin the process of building a relationship. We believe if they are familiar with who we are, there may come a time in their life where they need us.”
