GOLDSBORO — Sheriff’s deputies and State Bureau of Investigation agents say a former Kenly funeral director has been jailed on child pornography charges.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible child sexual exploitation involving a minor victim and requested assistance from the SBI to identify and locate a person who may have been distributing pornographic images involving children.

Based on evidence obtained over a two-year investigation, 34-year-old Brantley Gurley of Goldsboro was arrested May 8 and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to Kevin Roughton, special agent-in-charge of the SBI’s Computer Crimes Unit.

Gurley was jailed under a $20,000 secured bond.

Gurley formerly worked for Kenly Funeral and Cremation Service and Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. He is a former member of the Kenly Chamber of Commerce board and served in several other community organizations.

The SBI and N.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force assisted Wayne County sheriff’s deputies in the investigation, SBI spokeswoman Anjanette Grube said.
