The Wilson Youth Soccer Association Explosion boys U12 team registered its first win in the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association’s U12 Boys First Open Division East with a 4-1 triumph over Pitt-Greenville Soccer Association Stars on Friday, March 16, at Gillette Soccer Complex.
Charles Thomas finished a cross from Explosion teammate Ethan Carlyle in the 20th minute for the only goal of the first half. After the Stars knotted the score early in the second half, Snyder Pearson’s goal, with Jayden Moses on the assist, gave Wilson the lead for keeps. Christopher Rodriguez’s free kick from 30 yards found the net and then he provided the assist on the final goal by Gustavo Hernandez.
Henry Daniel made 13 saves in goal for the Explosion, who were led defensively by Riley Preble, Angel Rodriguez and Cameron Small. Preble blocked four PGSA shots.
The Explosion kicked off its season Feb. 23 with a 5-2 loss to North Carolina Football Club Del Sol.
Ethan Carlyle got Wilson on the scoreboard in the fourth minute when he converted a pass from Hernandez. After NCFC finished a corner kick in the 17th minute, Carlyle took another pass from Hernandez and stuck it in the net in the 33rd minute, just before NCFC struck again on a corner kick.
Rodriguez buried a penalty kick in the 35th minute to give the Explosion their last lead before Del Sol rattled off three straight goals.
Daniel came up with 12 saves in goal while Angel Rodriguez and Ben Mosley each had three blocks.
NCFS posted a 20-15 advantage in shots.
The Explosion, now 1-1, won the Second Open Division East last fall. They will play NCFC on Saturday, March 24, in Cary. The next home match for the Explosion is Saturday, April 7, against Onslow County Soccer Association Coastal Crew at Gillette.
