Junior Alberto Herrera had his feet all over two big wins for his Wilson Preparatory Academy varsity boys soccer team last week, making him this week’s Farris & Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Alberto drilled in four goals as the Tigers won 6-1 on Monday at Wayne Christian. Then, in Wilson Prep’s first-ever soccer match played at its new outdoor athletic facility Thursday, Alberto had a goal and an assist in the Tigers’ 3-0 defeat of Pope John Paul II Catholic High of Greenville.
The son of Irma and Alejandro Herrera of Wilson, Alberto is ranked No. 1 in his junior class and has a 4.27 weighted GPA at Wilson Prep, where he takes all Advanced Placement courses.
He is a member of WPA’s chapter of National Honor Society and was a member of the Beta Club last year. Alberto also plays baseball for the Tigers.
Alberto and his older sister Elizabeth started a voter registration organization, called Poder. He participated in the North Carolina Renaissance program at UNC-Chapel Hill and in the UNCG Chance program over the summer.
He is an active member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Wilson.
