Tyreese Ferrington, a 2017 graduate of Hunt High School who joined the U.S. Navy in 2016, has been promoted to petty officer third class. She recently received the Sailor of the Year award.

Ferrington graduated from boot camp on Sept. 22, 2017, and attended A school at Fort Lee, Virginia, before reporting to her first duty station in Yokosuka-Shi, Japan, in December 2017. Since reporting to Yokosuka-Shi, Ferrington has received many awards and promotions. Her awards include the following: Navy Achievement Award, Sailor of the Week and Culinary Specialist of the Quarter.

Ferrington is the daughter of Terrence and Vernessa Ferrington of Lucama and the granddaughter of pastor Ida Hamilton and Barbara Ferrington of Wilson.
