SANFORD — The Fike High varsity football team struggled to stop undefeated Lee County’s running game in suffering a 47-26 nonconference road loss Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets of the 3-A Tri-County 6 Conference piled up 316 rushing yards among 427 yards total offense in hiking their record to 5-0.

Fike of the 3-A Big East Conference amassed 389 yards total offense in dropping to 1-4.

Lee County never trailed after forging a 13-0 lead after one quarter. The Jackets rushed for five touchdowns, threw for two more and added their other TD on a punt return.

The Golden Demons drew as close as 13-7 in the second quarter and 20-13 at the outset of the second half.

Fike struck first on junior Tyrikk Hines’ 3-yard plunge and senior Aaron Bancroft kicked the extra point in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, the Demons of head coach Tom Nelson added TDs on sophomore quarterback Demari Daniels’ tosses of 10 yards to senior Monta Howard and 65 yards to senior Octavius Carpenter.

Hines galloped 65 yards for Fike’s fourth-quarter TD and Bancroft added the extra point.

Daniels connected on 9-of-16 passes for 183 yards and two TDs. He threw one interception. Carpenter hauled in six of the passes for 153 yards. Hines led the running attack with 123 yards on 15 carries.
